Uvumbuzi Club

In this issue Wajibu is featuring Uvumbuzi Club, which is a Kenyan environmental conservation lobbying society dating back to the early 1970s. Founder members of Uvumbuzi had earlier been active members of Wildlife Clubs of Kenya in their schools. They wished to carry on with these activities so that they could continue traveling to areas of environmental interest as well as participate in wildlife and environmental conservation activities. Trips for environmental purposes are a major focus for the club even today. Hence the name Uvumbuzi derived from the Kiswahili word vumbua meaning to discover. As their motto they have adopted this saying: Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children.1
