Letters to the Editor

Nairobi, 13.11.1997

Dear Editor,

I would like to congratulate you for your journal Wajibu which is of great help for all of us social ministers. We find the inspiration and rationale of Wajibu very much befitting to our approach to social problems. In fact, as "a journal of social and religious concern" Wajibu tries to link together religion and social involvement, where the latter becomes a sign of faith, and this is very much in line with the evolution of the understanding of religion over the last 50 years, which links faith to the social commitment of liberating humankind from all sorts of slaveries.

Wajibu with its own monographic approach to social issues, helps us to carry out the socio-cultural analysis of the problems and to detect their different components. The religious inspiration provides us with criteria to find out motivations for a holistic ministry capable of transforming the world. We also appreciate the sense of hope which always pervades your analysis of social problems and this enables the readers to enter into a constructive mood so as to operate in society with a positive outlook and creativity.

I would also like to underline the ecumenical and inter-religious dialogue approach of the journal counteracting the waves of fundamentalism and unilaterality which unfortunately is all around us. Wajibu also exposes to the attention of the readers the best found in all religions as far as social action is concerned.

On the eve of the third millennium of the Christian era, your journal, for all the reasons above-mentioned, is a cause of rejoicing and hope and an instrument to empower our ministry for the building of a better future for Africa and for the world. May God bless and accompany your efforts and commitment.
