Nothing Matters (poem)

by Yilma Tafere Tasew

For those whose
life is full of events,
whose "happy game"
is a fire breakout,
for those
beauty is their suffering,
their misery.
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
Who are footballs
of mischievous society,
nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
who are knocked down
by sophisticated hammer
in their head,
who experience
always the worst,
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
who expect
always the worst,
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
whose rhythm
is sorrow,
whose song is
hunger, disease;
whose
flute, guitar,
is the earth,
whose lamentation
is always
deep! deeper!
grief!
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those:
justice, human right,
democracy, freedom,
are meaningless words;
they are the songs
of "Modern Lords"
which flow
from soft mouths,
from rose red lips.
Nothing matters.

* * * *

The worst has happened,
is happening always,
to those "step children"
of this stupid life.
Nothing matters.

* * * *

They are drinking,
death from its ocean,
every minute within a pool,
laughing sad laughter
on death itself
with bright faces.
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
whose leaf is dry
while it's fertile,
whose being
is being,
is heard,
without being told,
without being written;
who are living
every minute
under the dust
from the worst
to the worst,
Nothing matters.

* * * *

For those
who have no dawn,
no sunrise,
always the sun sets,
only for them
from the west,
always who live
the horrible
darkness.
Nothing matters!
Nothing matters!
Nothing matters!
