Peace has no boundaries

Dor Shalom is a Youth Social Reform Movement that works to revitalise the values of peace within the Cameroonian society as well as to promote the culture of peace with the rest of the world. It provides for the inculcation of patriotism, nationalism and other desirable values among the youth to infuse in them faith in the creator, belief in the sanctity of life and dignity of the human person, conviction for the strength and unity of the family and adherence to truth and justice.

It is an initiative which started in Israel in 1995 after the assassination of the Israeli former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, where young people stood together and made the pledge to continue with the good work he had started.

In Cameroon, the movement aims at galvanising the catalytic role of the youth to reinforce and secure lasting peace as well as spur economic development in the various Cameroonian communities through the following objectives:

To promote mutual understanding, tolerance, respect for human dignity and to encourage peaceful and harmonious co-existence among the youth.

Reduce poverty, the spread of diseases and unwanted pregnancies, idleness, unemployment and high crime rate, create a sense of awareness and creativity among the young people.

Reinforce positive values, responsible citizenship, and vigilance through active participation and support in non-violence action against apathy, drug addiction, promiscuity and other crimes.

These objectives are realised through the following:

Training of youth leaders and the youth themselves on Community- Based Project building and implementation.

Facilitating youth exchange programmes within and without Cameroon thus providing a venue for cultural, moral and spiritual dialogue, conflict resolution and the creation of the Culture of Peace and order.

Organisation of conferences, seminars and workshops where the youth come together and brainstorm on issues that concern them.

Creation of a database of all the youth movements in Cameroon, monitoring and co-ordinating their activities.

Creation of a network of all the youth movements in Cameroon.

When this is done it builds in the youth the capacity of:

Policy formulation, prioritisation and direction of development programmes for the Cameroonian youth, to harness their full potential and to encourage their active participation in nation building.

These also will endeavour to promote and protect the youths physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual and social well-being and inculcate in them desirable values for civic efficiency, productivity and social responsibility towards freedom from fear, hunger and injustice.
