Friday, 23 April: (12:07 a.m.) Dear Sabrina, This morning, about 2 a.m., NATO planes bombed the Serbian State TV building in which there were quite a few people. At least five died and several dozen were wounded, many of them are still in the ruins. This was the largest TV station in this part of the Balkans, and the most sophisticated. Regardless of the contents of its programs, many of which I disapproved of, I think that the bombing is an outrageous, unheard of, act. Such acts were not done by Nazis, by any barbarians, by Atilla the Hun... This was a TV station, for God's sake. Last night most of Serbia's TV repeaters were hit, lots of bridges bombed down, and, what is ominous, the main post office in the city of Uzice (100,000; West Serbia) was hit too. My home city was bombed too -- its northern outskirts. I only know that there are fires there still raging on... All this after last night's talks between Chernomyrdin and Milosevic that gave a very good indicator of some kind of frail peace approaching. I am very, very sad. Djordje
