Threatening e-mails

Monday, 26 April: (8:01 p.m.)

Dear Sabrina,

Not only do I not mind being addressed as 'Djordje' but I think it is
appropriate as well. You've been doing so much for me, my family and my
country! Please, feel free to call me Djordje, it sounds so normal.

I am forwarding an email you might find interesting. Remember that I told
you about an American, Mark Hamlin, who said that Yugo would be banned from
the 'Net. Well, here he is again, writing his pitiful heinous diatribes
against me and my country. He's also threatening with spamming / jamming
us... Yet another of the 'democratic' representatives of the mighty USA...
This Hamlin guy is definitely a loony...

I was interviewed by Dan Voigt, a Kansas City radio reporter from Topeka,
this afternoon. It was typically American, fast, superficial... The very
first question was 'Do you think that the Serbs are still with Milosevic?'
to which I replied 'Yes, I do, but not because they would vote for
Milosevic, only because they tend to gather around the flag... This city,
Mr. Voigt is run by an oppositionary local government -- Mr. Milosevic was
decisively beaten here in the local elections, got only about 20% of the
votes. However, now we have a situation where he is not important at all.
What is at stake is our lives and our country... He wished to find out
what it was like to be a Serb in a city that is bombed and I tried to explain.
After about 45 seconds he broke in, asking me if the University had been
bombed! I said NO and he seemed to be satisfied with it. I only managed
to add that there were civilian casualties in the city and what had been
destroyed or damaged but the little interview was over he said and thanked
me.

That's that.

I am in a slightly better mood today. So sorry to have succumbed to the
hardships yesterday. You know, it is very difficult to live here nowadays,
and after a while it gets to you: lack of petrol, cigarettes, adequate
medical supplies (drugs), washing powder, etc. We used to have all that
thirty odd days ago. The wages have been cut down to the minimum which is
measly -- The societal infrastructure is badly damaged so that many
services are lacking or not working properly. Well, just imagine (God
forbid!!!) that Italy has been hit as badly as we have. Then you will get
the picture.

Let me broach another area, only briefly: I've never told you about my own
and my family's interests regarding film -- we have always appreciated
Italian films so much. Again and again we had agreed, much before the war,
how much more profound and intellectual, and truly emotional at the same
time, they are than American films. Compare Fellini, Antonioni, De Sica
with any of the American directors and you'll see what I have in mind.

Saska told me that you'd written to her! Thank you again. It does mean so
much to us. Please send my love to your family, and Fabrizio, of course!

Love,
Djordje
