Thursday, 29 April: (7:39 p.m.) Dear Sabrina, I have to disappoint you -- it is not raining in Nis, nor was it raining last night. I was a beautiful, crystal-clear night, cut out for serenadas and walks on the embankment of the Nisava river. Big full moon over the city. Fear in the hearts of the populace. At about 9 o'clock at night, a swarm of planes over Nis, lots of them. The menacing sound. They flew soutwards. Never came back. Oh, do I wish they never did! Glad to hear that Santoro is doing this -- and glad to hear that you are still with us, even more than before. All I want, all that people I know want is peace! No bombs, refugees back, no conflict. UN troops in Kosovo, OSCE observers. What's wrong with that? No gattini yet :))) Ljubitsa is following my wife all over the flat and expressing concern about her state... So funny and loveable at the same time. My best regards to Enrico and LOVE to you and yours! Will write again later if I can. Djordje, -------- (9:29 p.m.) Dear Sabrina, They flew over us half an hour ago and bombed the vicinity of Nis, probably a bridge. They love bridges, and only today destroyed a very important railway bridge leading from Nis to Thessaloniki, Greece. So now we can't travel to Greece by train... Nice. They are very nice and humane. I do know about the Congress rulings: I have to correct you about the opposition to NATO bombing. It was a tie 213 - 213!! The Speaker of the House (Rep.!!) helped Clinton by voting yeah, but this ruling is a failure to obtain after-the-fact (so ironic!!) congressional support for the bombing anyway! I think that Clinton getting quite edgy. Just hope this won't result in more ferocious attacks. Just took a look at the Gorbachev report. It is ominous indeed. I think that everyone should be aware of the consequences! Love, Djordje
